Shopify Announces “Calendar Purge”

E-commerce giant Shopify has announced a major change to its operating structure, eliminating all recurring meetings involving more than two people in an effort to give employees more time to work on other tasks.

The change, which is effective immediately, will also see no events scheduled on Wednesdays, while any large meetings involving more than 50 people can only be held on Thursdays between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m. Eastern Time, and are limited to one per week.

The move is expected to eliminate the equivalent of more than 76,500 hours of meetings, according to a company spokesperson.

The shift comes as more and more companies embrace remote or hybrid work, leading to a "less-is-more" approach to virtual meetings and a decrease in unnecessary or unproductive gatherings.
